The Department of Microbiology is dedicated to understandingthe complexities of the biology of pathogensand their host organisms. Gaining this understanding and using it to develop new antimicrobial strategies andapply the knowledge and skills in clinical problem solving and scientific research.
The Department is a multidisciplinary unit consisting of Bacteriology, Anaerobic bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Immunology, Parasitology, Mycobacteriology and Hospital Infection Control laboratory.
The microbiology laboratory is equipped with state of the art diagnostic facilitieslike UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Laminar Air flow chamber, Cooling Centrifuge, Autoclave, Light microscope, Water Bath, Orbital Shaker Incubator, Bacteriological Incubator, Hot Air Oven, Refrigerator, pH meter, Dry Bath, Weighing balance, Magnetic stirrer, Conventional PCRVortex and Gel electrophoresis apparatus etc and latest technology to perform real time RT PCR especially useful in the detection of SARS Covid 19 virus.
The main aim of our department to produce microbiologists of excellent caliber, who have acquired diagnostic skills of common and uncommon infectious etiologies, have developed good technical, research and teaching skills
